The Creek measures up nicely. We see decent results that belong in this price range. The noise floor is around -110dB with a rising noise floor towards 90 kHz. Creek has it under control, but it could be a little lower at the end we think.

The response and phase suits a class D amplifier. We can clearly see the effect of the filter. The response slopes down a bit towards 20 kHz and the phase turns up there too. We see this with all class D amplifiers.

Power output is approximately what Creek says it is. It’s just depends where you put the measurement point, we now know. Looking at 8 Ohms, we see that the Creek reaches almost 60 Watts at 1% THD. At 4 Ohms it doesn’t. Then we just hit 100 watts, not 110…

Power supply noise

Noise at the grid is pretty well under control. Common mode is around -80dB and differential mode -84. Could it be lower? Of course… but in this price range it’s just neat.

Conclusion

Many hours were spent listening. Not because 'it has to' and a review has to be written, but because the Creek 4040A makes it so easy to listen to music in a relaxed way. Music enjoyment per euro spent is phenomenal. Hook a nice record player to it, a simple computer with a decent USB cable for audio and Audirvāna on the computer and you have no reason to want to upgrade. Above all, the Creek brings a lot of listening pleasure, and that is ultimately what matters.
