The KAD K7 speakers from Kaempfer Audio Design are active speakers. The amplifiers are built into the speakers and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is used to do internal crossover filtering and phase control, among other things. The phase behavior is meticulously controlled with the K7. Of course, the speakers require a power cable.
- Each speaker has two TI Burr Brown, 32-bit/384kHz PCM5242 DACs, one for mid and high and one for bass.
- Each speaker has 4 Hypex NCore amplifier modules: for the tweeter, for the mids, for the front woofers and for the rear woofers.
- The speakers are full range, running from 20Hz to 25Khz (-3 dB).
The speakers are supplied with music by means of a wireless WISA connection.
The listening set-up
Ernest Kaempfer installed the KAD K7 set. He turned them in far so that the lines, which you can draw from the center of the speakers, already cross each other before the listening position. This setup was also used in the livestream, it minimizes the influence of the environment.
For the duration of test the setup was:
- The KAD K7 active speakers
- A Primare SC15 WISA preamplifier
- An AudioQuest PowerQuest3 socket
- AudioQuest Monsoon cabling for both speakers and the Primare SC15.
During the test, own music files were streamed with Primare’s Prisma app from a Synology NAS via UPnP. Qobuz was streamed via BubbleUPnP server and directly from the Qobuz app with Chromecast. For your information, the music mentioned in the review can be found in these playlists:
Supplementary the link to the mentioned album “Wish You Were Here“. The album “Almost Bangor” by Novastar is not on Qobuz.
