Kinky Studio EX-M1

The Kinki Studio is not for those who prefer a fuller, rounder sound. They will be better off with the (more expensive) Yamaha A-S3000. Both amplifiers can not be further apart in terms of playback. But they both pull us into the music. Other contenders are the Hegel H390 or the Moon 340i. These are also more expensive but a lot more versatile. Think built-in dac and streamer. Purely as an amplifier we do not immediately see a competitor in this price range and that makes it the Kinki very attractive.

It seems that more and more beautiful things are coming from China and that they are performing very well. In any case, the Kinki Studio EX-M1+ functions as it should, without the slightest hitch. And although it’s proudly made in China this is really not a Chinese amplifier because it is full of international components, even from the Netherlands. Something to think about.

We can imagine that the Kinki Studio EX-M1+ might be too light, too fast and too punchy for some, but for us the sound is just right. Even with our rather revealing monitors. The combination of transparency, control and finesse will suit anyone looking for an uncoloured sound with sufficient involvement and ‘musicality’.

Conclusion

We believe Kinki Studio is a very clever company. The name is striking, the looks are special and the price is very competitive. Apart from that, the EX-M1+ is a beautifully made amplifier with an excellent reproduction. It is a purist amplifier that makes the rest of your components shine like only the very best can. The Kinki Studio EX-M1 is an absolute must hear and highly recommend!

  1. Greetings,

I have a Kinki Ex-M1 and i want to upgrade, i see in this review that is compared with the Hegel H390 which was the unit i was aiming for to upgrade over the Kinki, but i m reading that they are contenders, so my question is regardless of the versatility of the H390 having a DAC & Streamer, how do they stack sound wise ONLY, is it worth to upgrade to the Hegel H390 for the sound over the EX-M1 ?

Thank you and hoping you guys are doing fine ih this contingency

    Warm Regards
    Miguel
