In its price range, the KLH Model Five is an interesting option. Its design is delightfully old-skool but its sound unadulteratedly contemporary. The KLH Model Five is a transparent reproducer that will expose the rest of your system. Something to consider. It is a speaker for those who like vocal music but at the same time you can play rock just fine. Bad recordings will fall through but most music, provided the system is balanced, will come through without sharpness. A tube amplifier is a possibility and will also fit these speakers visually.
Compare
When comparing the KLH to our Revels, the first thing to consider is the price difference. Apart from that, the Model Five does things in the midrange that are at least as good as the Revels. Below, we still give the advantage just to the Revels but many will just appreciate the KLH’s pure bass. The KLH’s soundstage is wider and the sweet spot is wider. Where the Revel does clearly win out is in the treble area. The beryllium tweeter, still unfairly characterized by some as sharp, is even more refined. In addition, they also “disappear” a little better although for such a large speaker the Model Five gets out of the way excellently.

Great review guys. I have owned these for over a year, and they just keep getting better. They are extremely transparent, and sound very good with a mix of gear. I find the sound most pleasing with an R2R DAC vs a chip DAC. Even my XTZ Edge A2-400 class d amplifier with the right preamp sounds incredibly good. A class A/B amp and preamp sound the best to my ear. Just a fantastic all around versatile speaker. Mine are staying.
