The Canton Reference 9 is an easy speaker to live with. Especially in terms of sound quality. Of course, it is quite large and heavy, so keep that in mind. The Canton Reference 9 is ideal for someone who often listens to music at lower volumes. Someone who likes control and balance. Nothing really jumps out at you. It also plays nicely with the rest of the system, so it’s essentially pretty neutral. You don’t really need a subwoofer for most music and we think the price is very competitive. Finally, it’s a nice looking speaker to put in your living room.

Our Revels are real “overachievers” that produce wonderfully tight and punchy bass. Still, we occasionally miss some sub-bass. You don’t have that problem with the Cantons. And where some floorstanders sometimes generate too much bass, the bass on the Cantons in our room is almost perfect. Detailed, tight and punchy. Wonderful. Because of the larger mid-bass driver we also experience a bit more calmness in the midrange.
The Revels seem to react a fraction faster but by a small margin. The Revels also ‘disappear’ a little easier than the larger Cantons which are a bit more critical in terms of placement. In contrast, the Cantons play bigger and with more impact. The BC tweeter is surprisingly equivalent to the Beryllium tweeter in terms of resolution and refinement. It lets even more information through while being particularly sensitive to what is happening further up the chain. You can hear it immediately if your source or dac isn’t up to scratch and like the Revels, they grow with each upgrade you make.
