Atoll IN50
Contents
We kick off with the Atoll IN50 (Supplied by importer Vietron). The smallest, integrated amplifier from the nice. French audio-company Atoll.
We’ve already tested quite a few products from Atoll. And time after time these headstrong Frenchmen prove that they can make beautiful stuff. The IN100 and recently also the cd-transport: the DR200, did well in the multitests.
The Atoll IN50 undoubtedly puts down the typical Atoll sound: warmth, flow and a wonderfully large stereo image. It the biggest sound bubble we hear in this test. However, we also hear some compression here and there. It seems as if the Atoll IN50 is just a little short on power with the TAD … s**t happens, right? That’s why you should always try at home.
In the end, though it is a fine amplifier. But the match with the TAD is not optimal. In that respect, the IN100 for only 400 Euro extra shows better what the French can do.
Measurements Atoll IN50
We can see quite clearly that the French use none, or very little feedback in their amplifier. Hence the huge stereo image (we guess). The residue measurement also shows no crossover distortion. That is positive. The noise floor is around -110dB.
Response and phase are reasonably under control. We see just over 20 degrees of phase shift at 20 kHz. That’s not crazy in this class. Distortion is generally a bit higher though. Probably due to the very low feedback. That’s a technical choice by Atoll. Power is easily achieved.
