Creek 4040A
Contents
This is either the first Creek – supplied by Hexagon – that we’re testing, or it’s been so incredibly long ago, we just don’t remember. Either way, we are very happy to be introduced to this fine brand from England.
In this test, the Creek 4040A is the only “half din” amplifier we are testing. We often have amplifiers with more compact dimensions, but in front of us, among the big boys, the Creek does look very small…. However, don’t expect small performance! This Creek packs some serious punch! Many an amplifier in its class will have a tough time competing.
What a wonderfully musical little box this is! We hear just like the Cambridge a delicious musical and playful character. It is not as smooth as the Cambridge, but it comes awfully close. The Creek, however, has a little more ‘oomph’ and plays a little tighter than the Cambridge. That could be due to the extra power, but we’re guessing it’s mostly due to the speed of this Creek. Resolution is high, but it is not analytical. A delightful device with that – we estimate – is very versatile!
