The Harbeth Nelson was developed specifically for the PS3ESR XD monitors but they also work with other BBC LS3/5a speakers. Many listeners cannot do without the magical midrange of those speakers and for the first time there is now a ready-made solution to complement the lower regions of these little ones in a user-friendly way. The Harbeth Nelson is for the man or woman who doesn’t feel like spending too much time, money and energy looking for a suitable subwoofer. Someone also who also has little or no experience in tuning such a subwoofer correctly. The price is hefty but a pair of Tonträger stands easily costs 1100 euros and a decent subwoofer also quickly sits around 2000 euros. That puts the price of a Nelson in a different perspective.

A pair of Harbeth PS3ESR XD monitors and two Nelson subwoofers comes to about 7500 euros. You have a lot of choice in that price-range. A pair of Goldenear T66 floorstanders (review to follow) for example, which we also visited. These impressive columns also come with amplifiers and built-in subwoofers and cost about the same amount. Obviously these are different products but somewhere they are not. As always, the choice of one of these systems lies with the listener himself. What does he or she consider important? What is he or she looking for? The Harbeth combo swings a little more and is more playful and fluent in its reproduction. The Goldenears in turn play a bit faster, more nippy and of course have a different approach to voices.
