We listened to the Mutec PSC75 in the Nieuwplaatz studio, where the Rega Planet CD player was connected to a Burson DAC, the Conductor. In the Alpha studio, we connected the PSC75 to the reference system, between the Mutec MC-USB reclocker and the Sonnet Pasithea DAC (BNC/RCA connectors).
The difference is immediately audible. We hear a much more spacious presentation of the music. In every respect, the music is lifted to a higher level. In detail, in the accuracy of the placement, in the texture of the instruments and in what we might call the ‘sonic signature’. The character of the recording is clearly audible. This can be the intimacy of an ensemble or the grandeur of a live recording where we are sitting in the hall and experiencing the acoustics of the room. With the Little Fugue, interpreted by the Jacques Loussier Trio, it sometimes sounds bigger than it is; that’s not bad at all, but with the Mutec cable we hear the snare drum as it is. All parts of the piece of music are identifiable. And all that by changing one cable!
