We grab the App and start playing some music. So we played through the WiiM App as well as BubbleUPnP and Roon (Chromecast). The difference is minimal. We end up grabbing Roon for the test because all the playlists are in there.
Above expectations
Frankly, the WiiM Pro Plus plays well above expectations. The AKM 4493SEQ dac chip does a surprisingly good job of painting a neat picture. What is especially noticeable is that the imaging is quite spacious. It admittedly does not have the tight focus and stability of the Pasithea, but gosh: does it need to be? That dac costs 25 times what the WiiM Pro+ costs. And that’s not counting the Mutec and the AlphaPC. In short: a pointless comparison.
Rich
Besides the striking spaciousness, we also hear a rich presentation when it comes to tonality. The WiiM Pro Plus rounds off a bit in the treble area, but the mids and bass are nicely balanced. And anyone not doing an A/B comparison with a high-end dac will not perceive that the treble is somewhat rounded off; there is still plenty of energy.
We had a few albums pass by, including Steven Wilson’s new album – The Harmony Codex. The deep, powerful bass effects come rolling delightfully into the room. The WiiM puts it all down nicely and beyond expectations.
This really is a streamer that will grow nicely into a midrange system. Yes: and that for 249 euros…. pretty bizarre!

Al vorige week heb ik de metingen bekeken van Audio Science Review.
Een site met goede metingen, maar ‘andere’ oren.
Bij ASR ging de freq. response na 20 kHz al steil omlaag.
Jouw meting laat een ander gedrag zien: recht tot ca. 80 kHz.
Ik vertrouw het meest op jouw meting, omdat dat het meest past bij een apparaat wat in staat is om signalen te verwerken tot 24b 128kHz.
Het gebied, net boven 20 kHz, laat de tekortkomingen van de apparatuur goed zien.

I am really interested in knowing how far you can take this streamer/dac combo with a Dodo power supply, for example?
Is that power supply overkill or will this then become a killer streamer for £1000?
Maybe a test with an external DAC?
